Where is Hotel Victoria?

I%26#39;m interested in staying at the Hotel Victoria in Minsk, but haven%26#39;t got a clear picture of where it is. Does anybody know this place? (Pobediteley ave., 59, apparently on the banks of the Svislac river.) I%26#39;m afraid it might be a pleasant hotel in an awkward location.

Actually this is a very nice safe location. newly built blocks of flats nearby, hotels...

you%26#39;ll not find many people walking around but

it%26#39;s just near the major avenue of Minsk.

four bus stops or 20 min walk and you are in the historical centre of Minsk(must look like Prague).

five bus stops and u got the underground, one of the best department stores, the centre of night life(restaurants, cafes, casinos...), embassies

better make inquiries about your accomodation facilities. i%26#39;m afraid their quality is not of europe class:)

Thanks very much for the informed opinion, blr2007. Straying off topic... I just heard about the Oktyabrskaya, which has received a couple of nice reviews elsewhere on TripAdvisor.com. Do you have any insights into that one? I%26#39;m trying to avoid paying the relatively big bucks I paid last trip to stay at the Hotel Minsk, though I%26#39;ll have to admit I liked pretty much everything about the hotel and its location.

|||

ha-ha)) everyone likes hotel minsk))) but it%26#39;s way tooooo expensive

oktyabrskaya hotel hmmm...

here%26#39;s the link

http://en.hotel-oktyabr.by/

seems like an expensive one too...

just in the city centre,the place is spotless and safe(well, like everywhere in Minsk centre), all government buildings nearby,banks, ATMs, plenty of restaurants and cafes, a beautiful park and the river just down the street

an excellent place to have a walk(which i actually like to have there))

|||

have nothing to say about the hotel itself though...

you see, i got no need to stay in Minsk hotels - cos i%26#39;m a Minsker))

|||

Well, I%26#39;ve got a reservation at the Oktyabrskaya Hotel, so I%26#39;ll post a review in the appropriate place when I return. I got a semi-luxe suite with breakfast for two for BYR 245000 (about US$ 114) per night. They also offered us a standard double for something like $98/night but it would mean separate beds. This place sounds like potentially a great deal to me because we don%26#39;t require a night club anyway.

Thanks for the help finding my way!

60$ per person... seems to be a good bargain. esp. taking into account that hotels here have prices 4 foreigners 3 times higher than 4 locals.

ps

better take euros here cos €-$ is 1-1.5(if u gonna spend more than 200$)

Hotel Victoria is a great Hotel. The Hotel is on the main Road, Independence Road I think it%26#39;s called, and about a nice 25 minute walk from city in a lovely area. We%26#39;re from Dublin and found the staff were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. We stayed there for three nights and did not speak the language at all yet the staff went out of their way to be helpful. The service was fantastic also. Only downfall is that the website advertises a swimming pool but doesn%26#39;t have one. What the hotel actually does have is a Jacuzzi, that%26#39;s cold, that%26#39;s chargeable if used after 11.00am. The rooms are large and bright and clean with the most comfortable beds I%26#39;ve ever slept in. The rooms also have aircon. The rooms don%26#39;t have tea/coffee making facility though. The bathrooms are large, clean, shower is in the bath and toiletries are supplied. The room we stayed in, on the eighth floor had a fantastic view of the river and park. The food is ok, middle of the road. We ate in the hotel restaurant because the menu was also in English. Would have liked to try somewhere else though!! The hairdresser and beauticians were 10/10. The Massages were11/10 I would encourage you to go for as many massages as possible!! Totally recommend it. The shopping in Minsk is fantastic also, once you get over the amazing figures of the girls!!! We found the Belarusian’s to be very friendly people, from Visa Control in the airport to the shop assistants in the centres. Initially we were worried about the Visa Control but found the process to be smooth and very quick!! Not at all daunting and degrading as I%26#39;ve found entry to the US to be where we%26#39;re hoarded like cattle in a market. I would recommend a week in Minsk over a week in New York any day. Enjoy.

Well, there it is. Please, use the site to get the hotel info only. Look for a green spot.
