Coming to Minsk as a student

Hello,

I am coming to Minsk in September to study for one year. I have some questions.

-Will I be able to work on the side to earn spending money? Teaching English, Editing. Or is this a big NO-NO?

-How much does a small one room apartment cost to rent?

-Realistically, how much money will I need per month to eat and survive?

Thanks very much!

hello,

well, i%26#39;m not a specialist but as a person who lives and works in minsk i think

1) it%26#39;s pretty difficult for a foreigner to find a job here, mostly because of the language. we speak russian or belarusian and not that many people speak good english. the majority of linguistic students work as tutors here and actually they are supposed to go to %26quot;their %26quot; children%26#39;s homes. But before you should talk to their parents and blah blah blah but parents usually dont%26#39; speak english. so probably it%26#39;s not a big NO-NO but it just might be a problem unless you look for the job really well

2)well, as to the prices... well, there are lots of agencies here which offer some appartments for some price but the thing is that prices can be different. if you want a flat to yourself it can be more expensive than if you%26#39;d share it with someone. i would say 150$ but i would advise you to get ready for about 250$ a month because prices are going up now soo it can be difficult to find a cheap place to stay

3) realistically, just to survive... if you exclude payment for the flat and stuff,so just for food, without any tasty things... i%26#39;d say 100-150$ but no restaurants, no cafes, nothing just simple things but definitely which are necessary.

well, in any case, i%26#39;d advise you to take more money because it%26#39;s better to take more and spend less than vice versa:)

good luck
