If you are UK citizen you ust to have ukrainian visa.
From UK to Gomel:
by ryanair.com to: KAUNAS or VILNIUS (Lithuania) or RIGA (Latvia) and from this places by train.
Timetable of train: www.pkp.pl
departure place name: kaunas, vilnius, riga
arrive place name: GOMEL
Tickets ONLY on railways station. Book only %26quot;SPALNY VAGON%26quot; not %26quot;PLATSCARTNY%26quot; !!!.
You can to fly too to Minsk but this is not cheap.
Information about Gomel in www.wikipedia.org
The name of Gomel in wikipedia is %26quot;Homyel%26quot;.
I think to sleap in Gomel only in hotel %26quot;TOURIST%26quot; (Sovetskaya street)
http://www.belarustravel.by/en/Gomel/Tourist/
Transfer from railways station is very cheap by minibus %26quot;marshrutka%26quot;. I think line no 10. Cost is about 0,40 USD.
You can change many on the railways station or near in minibanks.
In Gomel is too some old wood houses.

I have traveled alot in Belarus. You will be fine, except that you will not find alot of people who speak English.
We have written a travel guide about Belarus. Have a look at it and if you have any other questions, let us know.
The suggest to fly into vilnius and go by train is a good one. We make the same suggestion in our travel guide.

I am surprised to learn that having a Ukrainian visa (that doesn%26#39;t exist for EU citizens anymore) one can reach Gomel, which is in Belarus, and therefore a Belarusian visa is needed.
