Hello,
I will go to Minsk in mid April for a few days; as I like trains, I would also like to take a ride on some local Belarussian trains (maybe a trip to a town 2 hours out of Minsk and back). Does anyone have any suggestions which route is nice, which town would be an interesting side trip for a day with a nice train? And is it easy to buy train tickets?
I also read that there is a train museum in Brest; is there maybe also one in or near Minsk?
Thanks!

No the one in Brest is the only one of a kind.
Local trains are very much dependent on one%26#39;s taste, having spent some time in these I take shuttle buses when I can afford.
Just take a morning train to Brest or Grodno. Buying tickets at the Railway Station just make sure you get everything right - dates, time. Something like that.

Jan,
there are no towns worthy of visiting 2 hrs away from Minsk.
All of those that are need a 4-6 hrs ride by train. But in that very case you would have to either spend a night in your destination town or take a night train back to Minsk which I guess would be not quite convenient for an average Westerner :). Though if you like it tough you might have a try))
Anyway these are Belarus cities to visit and not to regret about it
Brest - 5hrs by train
Polotsk - 5-6 hrs by train
Grodno - 6-7 hrs by train
