Vilnius to Moscow via Minsk by Day?

hi,

am hoping to travel between Vilnius and Moscow, and was wondering if it would be possible to do the trip during the day with an early train to Minsk, and then a train on between Minsk and Moscow to keep the costs down (or moscow to vil via minsk)? has anyone done this trip or know if it is feasible, as well as the reliability of the trains between vilnius and minsk? And would you only need a transit visa for this trip?

i know by looking at germany%26#39;s DB site that there is an early train from vilnius that gets into Minsk with about an hours gap before the moscow train leaves Minsk? the overnight trains + flights direct from vilnius to moscow are quite expensive!

thanks

Last time I checked this there were something like 5 trains going from Vilnius to Minsk.

Some of them go to Moscow via Minsk.

Transit visa allows you to cross Belarus whithout staying anywhere overnight in the direction of your final destination within 48 hours.

It would be better if you gave a precise date.

Now I can see Train 6 Vilnius-Moscow 1700-2140 and Train 30 Kaliningrad-Moscow 1747-2216.

hi, yes sorry should have given a date - the date we are planning on going will be early July, but obviously websites only give info on timetables for the next 45 days. From research i%26#39;ve done so far i can see here is a daily train from Vilnius - Moscow at 06:37 arr. 10:40 in Minsk, and on Mon, Wed and Sat there is a train at 11:01 from Minsk to Moscow (arr 20:35). is that change in Minsk going to be cuttimg it a bit fine? thanks.

Yes, the 06 o%26#39;clock train is very popular with those coming from Vilnius to Minsk. If you do not intend to stay in Minsk longer than half a day, you can leave by evening train to Moscow. The number of which will be known one month prior to your arrival.
