Webeaagle, %26quot;the Embassy wasn%26#39;t of much help%26quot;...

It%26#39;s a shame your fiancee hasn%26#39;t been of much help...

1. Perhaps she would be able to translate this for you: http://www.ovir.by.ru/vid.htm. Some regulations on moving to Belarus for permanent residence.

2. For what I know full TESOL or whatever qualification means nothing here, as well as our diplomas mean nothing there (in the West). I am not sure about this, but unless State Linguistic University employs you, you might face difficulties in finding a job.

3. I have looked through that web-list of documents... Well, Bob, best of luck!

i would rather agree with Felix300:)

if you want to work here as a belarusian citizen you will get the same salary as our teachers and i%26#39;m sure you would be shocked to know that it%26#39;s approximately 300$ a month. A good way out for you would be to find some programme connected with teaching English thru British or German Embassies. thus you would have a job and housing provided by the embassy here and get pretty much the same salary as in Britain. Such programmes do exist but i have no idea where you can find out about them. Unfortunately, as far as i know these programmes give you an opportunity to live and work in Belarus only maybe for 2-3 years.

another way out would probably be to open your own business here, but you would need money for that and be ready to confront with our regulations here.

Apart from that:) you can live with your fiancee and she will support you:) at least in the beginning:) and you will have to learn russian and then you will see what you want to do here:)

Well, to comment on this...

1. Three or four swearwords would do to make a little conversation on any topic in Russian. You just have to know which ones to use and how to combine them and rather than worry about those cases, flextions and long Russian sentences. :)

2. You must have solid funds and even more solid connections with the local authorities to set up a business here.

You%26#39;d rather teach people English privately. You would be valued as a native speaker, although teachers who train for so-called Tests (to enter a university) are now more in demand.

Living at your beloved%26#39;s expense at the beginning?.. Well, it could be a thorough test of your relations. :)
